Found some old dirt, can I use it?

Long story short. I had a 110g dirted tank set up for close to a year. Dirt covered with a layer of that tractor supply co. oil spill stuff, capped with sand.

Tank failed and I down sized until buying a 100g this past weekend. I was cleaning the garage and found a tote half full of the dirt, oil spill stuff that I must have saved from when the tank failed. It's been in the garage for a year and a half now. Opened it up and it looks pretty good. Still has the balls of red clay mixed in and is still wet and muddy. It was in a sealed tote with plastic over it.

Do you think this stuff is still good? Or should I go buy a fresh bag of miracle grow organic potting mix for my new tank?

You mentioned wet, is it stinky? Wet soil in a sealed container makes me wonder if some anaerobic decomp has happened.

Or is it just damp? And smells earthy/soil-like? If so, it's likely good to use.

I didn't notice it being stinky but I didn't stick my nose in it. I did stir it with my hand and it's wet to the touch but not liquidy

Give it a good stir, put in the tank and fill with water, should be fine regardless of being musty, fishless cycle the tank as you would normally
