Gravels in Homedepot

I would like to find some white pea gravels above the flourite. And I find that Homedepot has some white gravels at the size of around 0.5~1cm for sale. But there are a lot of white powders along with the gravel. So I am wondering whether it is suitable for the aquarium? What should I do to test the suitability?
And any other recommendation for white substrate?

I'm using it in my tank, but I washed it in a giant kitchen strainer to get out all the white powder. The tank has been planted only a bit mmore than two weeks but so far everything looks happy. I am a former geologist, can spot anything that does not look like quartz - so far I have seen nothing but quartz.

Acid tests on any gravel or stone can tell you heaps of info as to the "Do's and Donts" for any aquarium

keep in mind the white pebbles WILL mix in with the flourite over time.

I wouldn't use it if it is made from limestone....Do an acid test on it.

Help control the pet population...spay or neuter people won't spay or neuter their dogs or cats!
