baseball clay

i live next to a park (brookrush park near buena park, but it is technically in anaheim) and they have a baseball field filled with clay. I was wondering if i can use it for my tank, my only worry is that it contain pesticide and copper.

Besides knowing wether or not you'd be breaking the law to remove anything; I would n't because it's quite likely some type of herbicide may be used to control unwanted weed growth. Also, if well maintained there may have applied fertilizers as well.

I'd never do it.

#1. That's stealing.

#2. That stuff is contaminated, guarantee it.

Lesco's SMS/Turface product is fired clay for baseball fields (all of the major's use it) and it's the main substrate I use.

I'd recommend buying it from a local Lesco/John Deere just because it won't be pre-used (mixed with dirt) and well it's nicer than just taking it.

It ranges from $15 to $20 for a 50lb bag depending on what part of the country your in. The only thing that's considerably cheaper would be pool filter sand in 50lb bags for $10'ish.
