Definatly rinse it, it will save you alot of headache down the road. I always take a large aquarium net in a small bucket and run water threw the flourite in the net into the bucket then stirr whats in the net and repeate 2-3times. I have very minimal clouding when I put it in my tank and then usually nothing when I move plants. If you dont rinse it, sure your take my clear up but itll the be the same murk everytime you want to move a plant.

I found that all I needed to do was rinse the top layer of Flourite, the last half inch or so that I added. That resulted in no "dust cloud" at all when I added the water or moved plants.

I prefer to rinse the bejeebers out of mine. I take it outside in buckets and run the hose into it and stir it around till the water runs off clear.

Then I leave it on a big sheet or tarp on the driveway in the sun to dry.

IME the black isn't nearly as bad as the red, but I definitely saved some headaches by rinsing it first.

rinsing

Yet I did 0 rinsing, and my 'cloud' (which was slight anyway) was almost totally clear inside 2 hours, and crystal the next day.

I think alot of it comes down to how you fill it, not how you rinse it.
