Best to least availably

Hi All,
Can someone experienced give me a list of different substrates which is the;
-Best to Least Quality and WHY
-Most to Least expensive
-Best value and WHY

"Best" depends on what you want from the substrate. If you want a substrate to supply a major part of the plant nutrients, you almost have to use ADA Aquasoil Amazonia. If you want to supply all of the nutrients by dosing the water, you would want to use something like Flourite, but you could use cheap pool filter sand.

could use Soil and gravel method (lots of nutrients in soil, have to choose right type of aquasoil for safety); can be more susceptible to cloudiness when distured; if follow Walstad method, can be less effort in dosing at least for awhile.

and there is mineralized soil option (you can mineralize your own, or buy kits or mineralized soil from members at the swap n shop for 25$ for 10 gallon tank)...I don't know where that goes on the 'tier' scale, though

how much area does a 9l bag od aquasoil cover, how many bags would you guy rec for a 36x12x16 tank?
