MGOCPM = yellow water tannins...Purigen or Carbon?

I've had my 50g tank planted and cycling for nearly 48 hours. It looks great -- except the water looks quite golden (like a pale ale). Apparently this is really common with the dirted tank (1" MGOCPM, 2" Black Diamond cap). I was always under the impression that carbon and/or Purigen were verboten while cycling a planted tank...or was I misinformed? I do have 4 pouches of carbon that came with my filter that I tossed back in the box. Should I pop some or all of them into the filter?

It will clear up after a few water changes it's just tannins leaching out into water

Any idea how long I can expect before the water will no longer have so much tint?

You can toss the carbon in there if you want. Since you've got a dirt substrate, you don't need to worry much about the very small amount of nutes carbon has the potential of absorbing. It'd become full pretty quick anyways. Also, hard to say how long it may last. I've got a tank a set up about 6 weeks ago with driftwood that had previously been in several other tanks and I would have assumed the tannina had all come out by now. But after years in the closet, and now in my tank, the dw is still releasing tannins like crazy. I wanna say even more than before. I've got another tank also with years old driftwood that does not seem to leach nearly as much. Same type of wood, same approx "age."

When I did my dirted tank I filled it and drained it 3 times before final fill and planting even after that it took about a week to totally clear , but carbon will speed the process if u run carbon I didn't bother just did extra water changes it's not harmful to plants or the fish but only to your eyes lol I hated seeing my tank that golden yellow color give it some time y'all be ok well worth it when u finally get to see how GREAT your plants are going to grow in dirt it's amazing

It's no joke! My plants arrived by mail about 48 hours ago, after sitting in a shipping box for just as long. Already they look so amazing and I'm already witnessing some growth. Clearly they don't mind the urine-colored water. It's only my beef.
