Eco Complete-Open Bag

I have to open a bag of Eco. The bag we have is about 8-9mo. Still sitting unopened. I have to open it I heed a small amount for an existing tank.
How long can I keep the remaining amount of the bag?
When I do use it again what should I do before adding to tank if it has sat open for some time.
Thank You Karen

I had an open bag of Eco for probably six months before using it, and it worked out just fine. I don't think it ever goes bad - either it sits around in water in the bag, or it sits around in water in a tank, or it sits around dry. ^^

Personally, I believe the 'active bacteria' bit is BS. The water is there to add to the weight and make it seem like you are getting more substrate than you really are. You still need to cycle the tank. I'd just store it dry because it is easier to deal with.

I will use what I need and let it dry out. That would be much easier.
