questions about clay substrate

I have recently received a gift of some used clay substrate (a.d.a. brand) but I didn't see the packaging. I can describe the substrate as really small balls of red clay. I have a few questions regarding this material.

I have a co2 setup and 4 watts per gallon going into my 120 gallon tank.

my questions are.
1. where could I find this type of substrate, I need a little more and the l.f.s. stopped selling it?
2. do I need to mix it with anything or will using just a clay substrate suffice for a high light semi hi tech tank?
3. how long does the water stay cloudy after adding in clay typically?
I heard of using other things to lock the soil into place but need advice about this subject.
4. any reason why I wouldn't want healthy LOOKING free clay substrate?

Thanks for the help
