minerlized soil?

ok so i am new to plant tanks. and right now im using play sand from home depot. but would like to change it. im really into DIY stuff i can do to my tank thus far. i modfyed my HOB filter to act as my heater. CO2 diffuer chamber plus filter. and i saw this "making minerlized soil" and thought it may be something to do.
so to the questions! What is minerlized soil? i know its rich in nutrients. whice would benafit rooting plants.
what are the pros and cons of it? compaction? could i fix that by adding peat balls (from wal mart) or what ever there called?
what do i need to make it. or how would i obtain it? and what r the steps if i were to make it

I am no expert on this method and have yet to try it, but my suggestion would be to stick as closely as possible to the given recipe, right down to the dolomite, potash of murate, clay, and exact same brand topping soil or as close as you can get. If you don't or monkey around too much with the original recipe, you may end up setting yourself up for failure.

You could read the thread "stickied" at the top of the Substrate forum about it. Pages and pages of discussion abound there. Then ask your questions in the thread, if you still have any.

Sean

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".
