adding used aquasoil to an exhisting tank

i am considering adding some used aquasoil amizonia II to an existing tank w/ eco complete as the substrate. what could go wrong? the only thing i can think of would be a big ph swing. how harmful could this get? could there also be a amonia problem as well?

tank has rummy-nose, rasboras, and red bee shrimp. current ph of about 7.2.

What would Honey Badger do?

Ammonia and cloudiness are the issues that come to mind when adding Amazonia to an existing system. The main variables here will be the tank size and how much you plan to add.

I have only added Flourite sand to an existing tank and did it using a large plastic drinking cup (~32 oz.). I would scoop up a cupful and slowly submerge it upright. I would slowly invert in the spot I wanted it. Massive clouding still resulted but would subside in <48 hours. I added an extra 3 full bags of Flourite to a 125gal tank over ten days doing this.

The major difference in what I did and what you're planning will be the ammonia from the AS. If your tank is well established and heavily planted you may not have issue if adding small amounts at a time. YMMV of course.
