Show Your Red Substrate!

How about a thread for red substrates? I'll go first..this is SMS red. The black specs are peat moss that the previous owner had used, and it got all mixed up in the move.

Close up:

The only thing I didn't like about this substrate is that it is very lightweight, and it's impossible to plant ANYTHING without weights. At least, for me it was. Even huge swords would not stay down! I now have Eco Complete (pics in the black substrate thread), and most everything stays down without weights.

I actually had it for awhile too, in the 10 gal. What was that stuff..the one that turns to mush? It looked pretty nice, but it fell apart easy.
Nice Laura. Is that a little striped fish in the middle?

I've always thought that a red substrate would look really awesome with some petrified wood as a hardscape. Ever since I started using p.w. on top of black eco-complete, which still looks nice, I've always thought that red would be best. It reminds me of Arizona, and desert-y kind of imagery. I bet someone could make a nice "Aquatic Grand Canyon" nanoscape using some red substrate, spiky-shaped plants, and petrified wood.

Now thats something I'd like to see

Yep, there's a Corydoras trillineatus hiding behind the java fern. Also a few RCS and an Amano disguised in that pic... LOL

Church, did you see the pw for sale in the S&S forum? Looks interesting. I thought the same thing when I saw it - needs red substrate.

I did. But I'm actually about to move in less than a month, so any expansions or upgrades to any of my tanks is out of the question right now... at least until I settle in to the new house.

But this thread really has me thinking! I've already got 3 tanks with black substrate... I think I would like to setup the next one with fluorite and p.w.
