Plain gravel

I have plain gravel in my tank I've been using the flourish tabs and liquid ferts (I didn't know better when i started)

I would like to add something to help my plants but i'm not sure what or how to do it with out breaking everything down?

Could you guys offer any suggestions

What would be a good substrate to mix in with the gravel?

What would be the best way of doing it?

When I started I was just plain gravel as well. I went into my LFS and a guy with many years of experience gave me a bag of gravel (can't remember the name) that has some of the elements normal gravel is missing. He said just wash it and take a small container and full and slowly add it to the tank and mix it with my existing gravel. You sink the container and slowly flip it near the bottom after rinsing and the disturbance is minimal. then just massage it into your gravel.

Done. I will try to get the name of the mix, just a very fine gravel but has trace elements etc in it.

That likely was a bag of flourite. You can add it just like Uwish says, rinse and add 1 cup/handful at a time. Over time as you vacuum it will mix. If you try to mix, your tank will cloud do to the mulm in the existing gravel.

OK so last night I was at the LFS and the girls was fliritng with me and I asked her how much her ECO complete was and she said for you 25 for a 20lb so I got a bag...

I removed about 15lbs of the plain gravel that was in the tank
then
I was slowly adding it using a plastic cup and man this stuff cloads up good.... but i read on the bag capping is not good to gently massage the sand into the gravel what a mistake.......

Now all my plants have black sand on them and everything looks murky.. what a pain in the a$$ I hope my plants will triple in size and look awesome after all the work to mix in this substrate
