how much black sand

right so was originally planing to switch out my mixture of Eco-complete, fluorite and gravel with something else and was thinking of going with Aquasoil. but hay what do you know i won a $50 gift card to Big Al's so i thought i'd get some fluorite black sand instead. so do you guys think 3 bags of the stuff will be enough for a 30 gallon tank?

3 bags would be too much for a 30g. Eco complete comes with a healthy amount of water, flourite doesn't.

I'd guess that 3 bags of Flourite black sand would land you around 3" of substrate in a 30"x12" 30gal. The sand is much, much finer than Eco.

FYI: I just used 50# of silica sand in a new 55g and it was TOO MUCH. I just took about 1/4 out.

I used one 20# bag of Eco Complete and about 15# of silica sand in my 30L (36"x12"). I've found that one PPG (pound per gallon - now trademarked) is correct for everything but aquasoil, SMS, and kitty litter.
