can i put something under my eco?

I have 20 lbs of eco. but i have a 20H tank. i want about 2" of subs so i should need 32 lbs of eco. can i put gravel or mud underneath it to compensate? over time would the gravel end up on top of my eco? would the mud (from a pond) create anaerobic spots that i need to poke at?

help

Whatever has the smallest grain size will end up on the bottom over time. Have you considered black Colorquartz?

FYI - 2" is awfully thick, at least up front - One "20#" bag of Eco in a 20T fit perfect when I had that tank...It is now mixed with Pool Filter Sand in my 30L - some of the larger pebbles of Eco do make there way up, but it is definitely a mix of black and white after 1.5 years running...

Colorquartz wouldn't be cost effective for such a small tank since it is sold in 50# bags @ around $20 - may as well get another bag of Eco in that case.
