Been battling cloudy water..

I have a 29 that has a 1/2" of fine sand and then about 2" of ADA Aquasoil on top of it. My plants have been growing like there is no tomorrow, but I have been battling cloudy water for going on two months.

Well about 2 hours ago I rinsed some Charcoal SMS and then capped the ADA with about an inch of the substrate.

Guess what? It is all but clear now, no more cloudiness and it only took a couple hours.

For the life of me I cant figure out why the ADA would cloud the water with "dusty" particulate matter.

Was a filter stirring it up? Do you have hard water?

Nope the filter wasnt stirring it up, but my water is fairly hard. I had it in another tank and it stayed crystal clear.
