Add more substrate?

Hi guys!

I have a 60g tank and I want to add more eco or ada soil to my tank. It will mess my parameters? Would it kill the bacteria in other words It would re-cycle y tank?

Witch substrate is better the Eco-Complete or the Aqua soil Amazonia?

Thanks

You should not add ADA AS to an already established tank IMO without making a mess plus most likely killing your livestock from the amount of ammonia that it will release until it has cycled.

Replacing/adding to substrate is always messy, but IMO you'd be better off adding the Eco in this case.

Do you think that if I add 5 pounds per week would of Eco-Complete would help to reduce the risk of re-cycling the tank?

I will like to add at least 20 to 40 pounds more ( 2bags more ).

IMO with a 60gal tank replacing the substrate with Eco one bag at a time shouldn't be too much, as long as you have good, established filtration, and lots of live plants help too.

I have 80 pounds at this point that make around 2''. Also, I'm running 1 Pro Magnum 350 with carbon, 1 wisper 60 and 1 40. I'm think that I can get around with just 1 more bag 20 pounds.

What do you think about adding just 5 pounds per week in the water change?

With that amount of filtration IMO you could probably change 1/3 at a time and probably still not notice any minicycle.

If you want to just change 5lbs at a time though go for it?

Oh I Think That I didn't explain my self good. I'm not changing substrate I just want to add more. I currently have 4 bags of Eco-Complete and I want to add more to get around 3' of substrate.

But thanks for the advice! I think it won't be any problems if I add more.

In that case, adding more shouldn't affect your cycle, especially if you mix it in.

i have changed substrate out of tanks with out any mini cycle. not to say it wont happen it just depends on your stocking and plants. if your just adding to make deeper it should be fine. the reason i wouldnt and ada soil is i think it leaches ammonia into the water for a couple months....

Thanks for the ADA soil Info. I decided to add 1 more bag of Eco-Complete.

Thanks!
