Topping Florabase with Aquasoil

I will be receiving some Aquasoil tomorrrow

Since i know this won't be enough for my 30g 36x12x16. Aquasoil cost so much when totalled up with shipping.
and paying that much for plant substrate out of my dad's credit card is nuts.
Florabase i can get locally i think for 25$ and scape my tank on the spot.

After alot of searching around about Florabase I might take do it.

Adding Florabase on the bottom and Aquasoil on the top. Would there be any problem with this?
How much bags of Florabase would i need to fill a 10 gallon?

My current substrate is Eco Complete with 3/4 sand.. So it kinda looks really ugly to human eyes. Since last year 2/12/07

Has nice growth with FB.

Thanks, FB is my favorite substrate, works best for
high tech tanks rather than medium tech.
Add a little peat under neath.

One bag for a 10g.

My tank has like 3.8wpg. If i add the last lamp it would be around 5wpgs.
Pressurized co2, EI fert. So im guessing that is high tech.
So you choose FB over AS?
So i would need around 2 bags for a 30g right?

With that much light you will want to dose heavy EI
on the + side, and don't burn 5WPG for to long.
Stay on top of C02.
Yes, I would choose FB over AS.

At least 3-bags for a 30g. I have I believe 4 bags
in mine. Substrate was about 4"+ deep in the back
3+ in the front.
Have had it going for a few years now, still going strong.

Im running current 3.9wpgs around 1:40 to 9:00. If I installed my last lamp how long should I run the 5wpgs?

How much does your FB cost at your LFS?

I can't seem to get this through my head. Can you rephrase it?

Would you still buy FB over AS right now?

Hehe, When burning 5WPG no more than 4 hours.
Three would be good to start with, use less light for the
remainder of light cycle whether its 3 or 4 or 5 more
hours.

FB is just as good as AS, if you want AS get it, you can't
go wrong either way.

I am not trying to rain on anyone's parade or burst anyone's bubble, flora base is controversial at best. I will refer you to this thread for further details.
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/su...lora-base.html

Some, including the manufacturer claims that it needs to be replaced every year as it turns to mush and disintegrates, so if you use it on its own you could be left substrateless after one year. Having said that I have read that many people have successfully used florabase capped with Eco-Complete. If you cap Flora Base with Aquasoil, you may not have any problems other than a total reduction in your substrate base when the FloraBase begins to vaporize. Personally, I would not use FloraBase on its own, so your plan of capping it with Aquasoil sounds like a good plan.

Homer, are you the Flora Base police?
Have you ever used Flora Base?
I have been using it for years, I read part of that
article, the guy don't know what he is doing.

If you have never tried it then why on earth
are you spewing about it? cause someone said so?

Please, I am not trying to be ugly, but if you've not used it
then you have no business posting about it in a negative
way.

If you can prove me that it is inferior then lets talk.

Well first of all and with all due respect, the manufacturer clearly tells you that it needs to be replaced every year as it will breakdown after that time. So, it is not just someone who said so, it is the manufacturer trying to be upfront with buyers. Now if you don't want to go by what the manufacturer says that is entirely up to you, but I am communicating something put forth by the manufacturer who is the most duly qualified to comment on it. I wasn't spewing anything just a fact. And although I have not used it, people who have posted about it have not necessarily posted good things about it and their experience and observation bears out what the manufacturer says about it - in other words sir it what the manufacturer says has been confirmed independently by some users experiences. I am not telling people not to use it, you seem to be reading into my post, what is not there, so please chill out. What I stated was that it is controversial at best and that is a fact and reality if you consider peoples' experiences in general, not what you feel best confirms what you believe to be true. Proof is that some people have found it breaks down over time, but I guess as you put it none of them know what they are talking about or doing and the manufacturer does not know their own product Oh, and not posting about it, why? Just because it does not support your views, belief or experience. I believe members should be able to have all available information and make their own decisions, otherwise you are proposing selective censorship. Are you the forum Police?
