Last I heard, it was just SMS relabeled and sold as their own substrate.

check around and see if you can find SoilMaster Select or Turface locally $13-15 for #100.....thats all the aquariumplants stuff is,re-packed in a 5 gal bucket

Do you have a Lesco nearby ?

its a good cheap alternative if you can't find SMS/Turface near you..like me

I just bought 200 lbs of Turface for about $50 from John Deere Landscaping. So far, I've used 2 1/2 bags total for (4) 40 gallon breeders and (1) 50 gallon tank.

How are you liking it, Cah? Is it as lightweight as SMS or the same?

Have you checked www.Lesco.com or looked for any local John Deere stores?

Basically, Lesco distributes Turface through John Deere stores. You should be able to go to the Lesco website and order some Turface online, have it shipped to your local John Deere (for free, I'm pretty sure- I've heard ppl say they had to enter a credit card # but it never got charged) and then pick it up in person from the John Deere.

The Turface is very light and tends to get sucked up in the gravel siphon if I'm not careful. It also lowered my pH initally. Other than that, I'm very happy with it.

Can the turface be mixed with anything else, or another substrate layered on top so that it is not as light.

Thanks,
Rekles75

Before you make the trip you might try just going straight to the Lesco site first and see if they'll ship it to the store for you! It's worked for other ppl, anyways...
