I read somewhere that this contains no nutrients, but has a high cec. Is this true? Is it also the same as profile? Is it worth using in my tank?

Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question of if Shultz aquatic plant soil actually contains nutrients? I read on http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/art_plant_substrate.htm that shultz doesn't contain any nutrients. I need to know if this is true.

Thanks so much.

Profile both contains nutrients and has a high CEC. According to the manufacturer, the Aquatic Soil variety is made according to stricter quality specs, especially regarding effect on pH and hardness of water. Many others say it is exactly the same stuff. A few have reported problems.

Is it worth using in your tank? What exactly do you mean?

Here is an excellent analysis of chemical content and CEC of the majority of things that could reasonably be used (back in 2000) as substrates in tanks: http://home.infinet.net/teban/jamie.htm
