What would you choose.

I am in the process of setting up my first planted ten gallon tank. I am not sure what to use as a substrate. Should i use Schultz aquatic soil covered with gravel or should i just purchase a bag of eco complete or flourite. I don't think the cost difference in the end will be much different.

it is basically an aesthetic choice between eco-complete and flourite.
They both grow all types of plants well...I have EC in my 55gal and Flourite in my 10gal.
If you want a round, uniform black substrate, go eco-complete. If you want a generally clay-pot colored substrate with darker and lighter variations, use flourite.
Just remember to rinse the flourite really well before you add it to the tank; it has LOTS of sediment.
