Question S-Grade Color Quartz

Hi...I want to have a planted tank and have 140g.

I just recently changed substrate to 3m S grade. I have people saying I can not grow anything in it.

Does anyone have experience with the S grade? Do I need to put something additional in it?

Help this newbie!

I have S-grade in my 135 and it grows plants fine. At first I only used root tabs but now I have pressurized CO2 and dose my ferts through the water column. So to answer your question, I do not think you will need to add anything unless you really want to.

The only issue I have had is keeping plants rooted when they are first starting off, so you may have to replant some that are floating, but they will establish after awhile. I love the substrate and so do my Cichlids who dig in it all day. That may be why I can't keep my plants rooted!

You might want to do a search here for 'mondo grass'. You'll find its something that wont live in your tank for long.

As far as S grade goes, folks think the T is better since its a larger grain but the S grade should still work. I was going to get S grade but I ended up not being able to get it and just went with PFS.

Thanks for the pointer. It saves me from buying more of this Mondo Grass that really doesn't live in an aquarium. Shame...it looked nice
