Non-painted black gravel source?

Is there such a thing or only black sand? I have a new set-up but wanted to add a black background for at least a part of it. All black gravel I have found at the lfs is painted.

Check out Flourite black substrate, not to be confused with Flourite black sand* substrate.

There is a pic of it here :http://www.seachem.com/Products/prod...riteBlack.html

Yes there is black sand like blasting sand or tahitian moon. There's also black flourite and activflora which are like a finer gravel. Plus ada aquasoil in black which is like little pellets. Check out some of the online retailers if you cannot locate any local sources. Good luck

The black flourite looks good. So I should be able to use this on top of my gravel cap right? A thin layer since I have about an inch and a quarter gravel cap already.

You can. It will naturally mix together and the bigger pieces (gravel) will find their way on top eventually. Keep that in mind.

Ecocomplete is also comes in black and can be bought coarse or fine. It is beneficial for aquariums.

Petco has inert black sand.
