Flourite,,, Did you rinse your mud?????

Rinsed the flourite for my tank and HOLY $*&@#%%$
There are mud balls in the bag,,, golf ball size!!
What I did was get a 5 gal paint strainer bag from the home inprovement store and dump a bag of flourite in.
Some verry verry small sand size particles did make it through, but I think it woorked pretty well.
But man,,,, the amount of muddy watter wow.

Yea, back when I started I didn't know about the paint strainer, so I rinsed the first 6 bags (for a 55) with a colander (lost lots of fine particles. )
For the next 6 (upgrade to 125) used the 5 gallon paint strainer, much better.

The other tricks I have learned along the way are:
1) water should really just trickle into the tank until you have a few inches.
2) place a plastic bag down on top (weigh down with rocks or plate. Helps keep dust down.

I don't remember any mud balls though.

You could always drain, and refill using one of the above, or if you have access to a DE filter it should help.
Also, I've read that high flow can keep the dust suspended.

As far as SMS goes if you want to rinse it the strainer bags are pretty handy.
I just hooked another filter up an eheim clasic,, (quiet and moves alot of water ). I used the bag to rinse the media.
I saved the mud balls, and will post a pic,, along with a few
of my tank going together, as soon as I figure out how to post pics,,,,,, annyone know how to post pics ,,,help!!!!
