Need to rid my ADA aquasoil and powersand

Hi everyone,

I am in the last stages of breaking down my tank and need to clear out the aquasoil and powers sand. It been in the tank for about 6 months. I know it like to turn into mud when you take it out of the tank completely wet.
Is there a specific way I should remove this substrate without distroying it?
Anyone interested in this soil please let me know!

-Pete

aquasoil does not usually turn into mud when removed from the aquarium. it will however turn into mud when crushed or squeezed.

if you'd like to remove aquasoil without turning it into mud. you could use a plastic spade or scoop to transfer the wet soil onto a piece of towel or a strainer. After which you may spread it out to dry. dry aquasoil is easier to store and a lot easier to handle.

on the other hand, powersand, cannot entirely be "reused" in the same way as aquasoil. After you dig it up, the black "sand" or "soil" whatever you may call it would be all mixed up. leaving the powersand "damaged". the pumice stones (the white stuff) will however be "reusable" and rather valuble for beneficial bacteria to grow in any aquarium that its transfered too.

just be gentle! =) and good luck!

I've always wondered if you couldn't just vacuum the stuff out with a shop (wet/dry) vac. On the other hand I don't think that qualifies as "gentle!"

hmm. might blend the AS into mud! haha but its just reminded me. another alternative to scooping AS out is to vacuum AS out into a sieve with those water changing kits! haha

Actually, I am interested in a bit of ADA AS. How much would you want for a flat rate box full?
