Building a Dwarf Puffer tank Substrate Question

This is my first planted tank so I'm not to knowledgeable. I was curious if Eco Complete Plant Substrate is as good as they make it sound on the bag? Do you really not need laterite when using it. Is it better to use laterite and flourite instead of Eco Complete Plant Substrate? Should I use some sand to with either.

Any help would be most appreciated

Well first what kind of plants are you wanting to keep? If you want plants that have rhizomes and need to be attached to things(Java Fern, Bolbitis, Mosses, Anubia) then substrate dont matter. You can easily just do Eco Complete tank only. I see no need for adding extra nutrient filled substrates if you are dosing the water column and have a specail substrate.

Generally speaking, Eco-complete is supposed to be better than flourite. You do not need to add laterite to it. I would recommend not using sand with it, as the different grain sizes will cause compacting.
