General Drift wood Question

I'm new to this aspect of acquarium keeping having been a reef tank keeper for a few years. I have a relatively new tank which is doing quite well and I'd like to add driftwood to the tank for the plant specimens that like to attach to it. What impact will adding driftwood have on my tanks chemistry that might be problem? Other thoughts or suggestions?

Driftwood may release tannins to you water which will give your water a tea color. It will also lower the ph...

it will tend to soften your water, and you will likely have tannins in your water for a while with a new piece. (tannins are not harmful, it just turns the water brown, and then it looks icky) it also may lower your ph if you have a low buffer.
