Changing Substrate

I'm thinking about changing my regular gravel to Aquasoil and I was wondering if I should vaccum out all the mulm and save it for when I put in the Aquasoil. Should I buy some laterite or anything like that to put in the tank before I put in the Aquasoil? And does Aquasoil really cause an ammonia spike?
