Mixing Flora-max and Fluorite
I'd like your opinion on this. I'm putting together an 80 gallon tank (48*18 base) and I'd like to have about 4 inches of good all around substrate. I'd like the colour to be a deep brown, a very natural brown, not black, but not too red.
Being in Canada its nearly impossible to get anything via mail order at a reasonable price so I'm left with asking the local retailers to bring something in. Seachem and Caribsea are two of the more common manufacturers that have their products in stores here.
From the looking I've done, Fluorite Brown and Flora-max seem to be pretty close in colour. The Flora-max is moderately cheap and shipped in 50lb bags. I'm pondering a mix, likely 1/2 of each. Also, the substrate calculators give me a rough number of 150 to 180 lbs of substrate required, if you've experience, please let me know if this is reasonable.
