Sand substrate...

I experimented with plants but when that failed I took out the plants and the soil but I kept sand in the tank cuz it looks nicer than gravel, but my sand turns green from an alge I guess... I do about a 50% water change every Saturday (55 gal tank) but it still turns green... I dunno what to do... Any suggestions?

What are the dimensions of your tank? What specific lighting do you have? Are you using CO2? Dosing ferts?

What are your water parameters? Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, temperature?

Cory cats and trumpet snails flip the sand all the time helping to keep it clean.
