Soilmaseter Select

I am setting up a 29 gallon tank with this as my substrate.

My question is:
Is this the only thing I need for subsrtate?

Do I need to add any fertiliser tabs to the substrate?

Would having a layer of peat underneath be benficial?

Will mixing with black sand help with the planting?

Is there anything that I should know about this stuff that would make me think twice about using it?

Thanks!!!!!

you can use it alone. rinse it well though.
If you have really hard water, you can put a LIGHT dusting of peat at the base, then fill...otherwise, you really need not add anything else.
Some have had instances of it turning your tank acidic..this will revert over time and waterchanges...however, if you rinse it thoroughly in a buckt many times first, you should be ok. As for root tabls...your plants will be fine when you establish a fertilization regime, via dry or prepared=type ferts once you are set up.

See this thread:

My advice: mix it with something organic or use plant tabs to fertilize the substrate.
