My small work tank has turned out to be the crown jewell in my collection. Being pieced together from cast off parts from other projects, and only planted with clippings from my big home tank.
I've noticed something green in the substrate layers. It looks to be some type of algae or possible new life form accidentally released from a top secret government lab.
Its been there for a while, doesn't seem to be effecting anything, but still I'd like an idea on what it is.

The green stuff seems to be living in a pocket of gas in the soil layer of the substrate.
The tank is a low-tech MGO, with an inch gravel cap. The tank gets a board-side of sunlight for a few hours every day. Water changes are weekly and about 50%. I add a 1/4 dose of fert once-a-month, and there is no air bubbles or CO2, just an AquaClear 20 filter.
A better image of the tank, you can see the strip of green in the substrate.
