Sand

I'm just setting up my 55G after a move from MA to MN. I have the AHS retrofit with 2WPG lighting. I've grown plants in eco-complete and gravel before. I'm thinking of trying sand. Some people love it, some hate it. I was thinking about putting down a layer of peat moss and then some laterite andor some root tabs for the root feeders followed by the sand. I like the idea of sand because it's cheap and I like the look of it. Plan to start with a buch of stem plants, some swarf sag, a few swords, anubias, and whatever I can scavenge from my smaller tanks and off this forum! I suppose an order from aquarium plants.com is in the cards too!

Interested in what people think about sand. I'm sort of low tech--2 wpg, no co2, fertilize occasionally (with this tank I intend to fertilize regularly). Haven't really thought about fish, perhaps a few angels, hatchetfish, keyholes, or a large school of tetras.

Thanks for your thoughts!
