which substrate is best for a 5gallon aquarium?

how many folks came in the thread to find out what whxih substrat was?

I use eco complete in all of my new tanks now.

I just finish setting up my 5 gallon with pool filter sand. I also use it in my other tanks mixed with plant gravel or laterite underneath.

Try out some ADA Aquasoil. It's pricey, but on a 5 gallon it's tolerable and people are reporting good results with the stuff. I has the added ability to soften harder water too so if you live in an area with high KH it will lower it. For some plants this is very helpful.
