How to change a substrate?

SO I jsut ordered my three bags of ADA and a smal thing of power sand.. I thought 1 - 2 CM was a bit much haha... plus I water column dose that stuff anyway. (how long does it usually take to ship? and where does it ship from?)

umm... what is the best way to do it? and how should ADA be cleaned? will it be annoying like florarite and half of it floats?

You had flourite that floats? I don't know about washing it, but when I changed my substrate, I:

1. Siphoned some of the water into a 5 gallon bucket
2. Put the fish in the bucket
3. Siphoned rest of water into other 5 gallon tank
4. scooped out old substrate
5. left some old substrate in tank
6. put in new substrate and sloped it
7. slowely put in a little water. (poured over saucer, so would not make dust clouds. it was flourite)
8. planted plants
9. Put in rest of water
10. after a day put in fish.
