how much gravel is enough?

If you are doing a low tech planted tank how much gravel to add if I use a layer of fluorite first of 30lbs on the bottom and a 50 lbs on the top? I have around 2-3 inches. Shouldn't i be around 3-4 inches for most root bound plants.

I wonder if deep gravel is a bad thing? Like around 5-6".

3" is the sweet spot in a planted tank.
deeper will just increase your tanks
bioload without any actual benefit.
if you have an under gravel filter pan
or no plants at all, then 1.0" is best.
