ADA aquasoil Amazonia

Hey everyone,

I was pondering earlier how long my aquasoil would leech ammonia for, I figured that different factors might vary the time and best just to keep up with water test until I get a reading of 0 on Ammonia and Nitrite.

But then I wondered, how exactly can I tell the difference between a reading of 0 caused by an established filter to cope with that amount and a reading of 0 caused by no more ammonia leeching? Am I right in thinking that lets say the filter can cope with that much Ammonia, then I add stock which creates even more then my filter won't be established enough to cope again

If there's any concern that your tank can't handle livestock, you can add a pure ammonia solution to, say, 3PPM. If your tank can process that to zero within 24 hours, you're good to go.

I've always wondered if you induced a MASSIVE amount of ammonia in a tank to build up a huge BB then added your livestock. lets say they have a very low bio-load. does that huge BB colony die off? (not to thread jack or anything)

Yep, the beneficial bacteria will die off if there's not a food source to support them.

BB ebbs and flows with tank population.
