Safe-T-Sorb for a 72g bowfront

A local hobbyist inquired how much STS substrate would be needed to provide 3" of depth in a 72 G bowfront.
The tank dimensions are 48 x 18 x 22 (L x W x H).

I saw someone use this formula L x W / 10 which would equate to 86.4lbs. this formula does not factor the desired height of the substrate.

A safe guess would be to order 2 40lbs bags of sts but wondered if this would be enough ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi acitydweller,

I used to use Soilmaster Select Charcoal and a 50# bag covers 6 square feet to a depth of 3.5". Two bags of Safe-T-Sorb should be more than sufficient.

I am guessing you could almost get away with 1 bag - you definitely won't use both bags completely.

210 gallon build -

Thanks for the input all. I've been asked to order this for someone so i wanted to be certain to get enough and not have to place a subsequent order.

How do you like the Safe-T-Sorb vs the SMS? I had a lot of frustration planting new plants in SMS. It was so light, plants would float out, even with weights.
