Aquasoil seriously how long??

It's been about 3 weeks, and just tested my ammonia and nitrate.

Ammonia is hovering around 2 ppm and Nitrate around 2ppm

Have been changing water, filtration is working fantastic. Wondering how much longer I have to wait until my numbers drop!!

I assume I am using the test kit correctly lol, read the instructions!!!

Re: Aquasoil seriously how long??

If you do not have a full tank of plants and NO seeded filter, 3 to 4 weeks IME.

With a 60g old AS + PowerSand + virgin filter + full tank of plants + 90% WC daily for a week took about 3 weeks.

Re: Aquasoil seriously how long??

Thought I seeded the filter some but guess not that well lol.

Sigh, guess just have to wait it out, ready to add some fauna, need to get more plants.. Though I guess it's a blessing as not a lot of money currently

Without using something to absorb the ammonia, either a bunch of plants or some seeded media, I've heard it could take a substantial amount of time because the ammonia can reach such high levels that it prevents beneficial bacteria from thriving. You need to take some media from an established filter and put that into your new filter. That is the quickest way to get things going. I used establish media in my Amazonia tank and it took less than two weeks to have a cycled tank.

Re: Aquasoil seriously how long??

May hit the neighbor up for some additional seeded media lol

If a mod happens along, this should have been in substrates...

Re: Aquasoil seriously how long??

Adding some live BB will certaintly help.also. Check what is available from LFS.

Plant wise, I thought I told you to reach out and touch OVT

Higher Thinking is correct, at ~4ppm. BB stops reproducing. At pH below ~4.2 it starts to die.

My 30g was almost done cycling last night, time to go and check again

MY 55 gallon took 1 week with new AS. I heavily planted from the start, and used my filter that was in use for 6 months before.

Re: Aquasoil seriously how long??

Well ammonia hasn't reached over 4ppm so probably just slow production. Definitely will have to acquire some live BB to boost it.

I know OVT but was going to wait until I had some moonies for plants and still have to get my co2 refilled before I go to plant crazy
