water changes

want to start a dirt tank but have herd that you change water every day for months is this right

Meh.. dry start it... Then, flood and soak for 24 hrs. Repeat until you feel the tannins are low enough to bear with. The dry start will help rid of most of the ammonia as well as establish some beneficial bacteria.

going with 20gal long first then maybe a 55gal.

I'd let it go, on the other hand
1) use carbon in filter for tannins.
2) use floater plants and a few riparium plants for nitrate reduction
