Caribsea Floramax

What makes this substrate good? I had it in a 10 gallon planted tank and saw really no results. So i pulled it out. But IM considering mixing it with mIracle grow and then capping with black diamond. Would mixing the floramaX with the miracle grow mean that i wont have to mix in any clay and could go without using root tabs? Im searching on floramax and little is said about whats in it that promotes growth.
I have 12lbs of it thats just sitting in a bucket on my proch, so id like to use it for something. just an idea. and any ideas from you folks?

I believe it doesn't promote growth. I looked into using it and when used alone needs root tabs to provide nutrients to plants. Though it has a good capacity to absorb nutrients from the water column over time.

I have it in my 74 gallon with pfs sand as a cap with root tabs and just recently did things start taking off.

Thats what i figured with the floramx, more reason why i will just mix it with mircale grow and then cap it and see how it goes.

The best thing about it is the price, $7 a bag at the petsmrt here. I think it looks nice and the grain size is supposed to play nice with plant roots.

I grew a carpet in this substrate using root tabs, I also use it as a cap for mts, but I think it is rather useless for plant nutrition
