Question Aquasoil Cloudy Tank Blues

Grrrrr...

So I set up the 5 gallon on my desk at work last night; all of my careful hardscaping was obliterated when I added water, even as gently as [I thought] I did. My carefully boiled and cleaned driftwood had dried out enough to float to the top of the tank (ugh!). Further, it's still cloudy with stirred-up Aquasoil Amazonia sediment.

All you other newbies like me need to take a note from the masters on this forum and use a dish or small plate when you add water!

I've left the filter off for now because I think it was agitating the sediment even further, but does anyone here have other recommendations? So far the only thing I've found is someone on another forum recommending 50% water changes practically daily until it clears up, which seems like overkill, but hey - anything that works is worth consideration...

If all you have is the subsrtate, you can drain ALL the water. Then re-fill with the plate (basically you get a do-over).
Otherwise if you have access to a Diatom filter, that should help things along.

Substrate and a couple rocks w/ Java Ferns or Taiwan moss attached, nothing too permanent.

Guess a refill is probably in order, especially because I'm concerned about overall water params after setup yesterday (in the course of fiddling with the powerhead my hand dipped in the tank a few times, and since it was warm & humid I was kinda sweaty).

Thanks Tazcrash!

Edited Update:

Worked great. I did an 80% change and ran the filter - much more clear. Now to deal with this 240 gph powerhead... the fun never quits.
