Keep the filter running the whole time there is water in it.

Did you cap it? If not let it settle for a day then add your filter.

sorry to thread crap, but I'm doing the same thing, but I didn't get my sand cap in yet. Should i fill up the take and start to filter before I get my cap on it?

You can run the filter as long as there is water. I didn't cap my 5.5 and still haven't. Everything is good. Takes longer for everything to settle. I would also recommend using poly fil as media in your filter to catch all the dirt till you cap it

Patience once drove a man insane

Thanks for your time
