Question about Crypts/substrate

So I read that for Crypts, it's better to use a smallerish substrate. Would crypts grow okay in plain gravel? Or eco complete/floramax with plain gravel on top?

They will be fine in plain gravel. Put a root tab deep below it. Try to get a smaller sized gravel, raw split pea to raw rice sized. Remember if you mix different substrates together the pore size will be that of the smallest type of substrate.

I've had them in plain gravel before, and they didn't grow at all.

I can't tell if you want an answer, or if you want to be right.

Like Kathyy said, you have to use a root tab in gravel - or any inert substrate (like sand).

c parva (follow the arrow - 10 gallon tank, gravel substrate)

c retrospiralis (29 gallon high goldfish tank, gravel substrate)
