Unhappy seperating substrate...

Long story short, I'm going to redo my aquarium. I have eco-complete as my bottom layer, and sand as my top layer. Now, since I am going to redo my aquarium, I don't want the sand substrate. The problem is that over three months, the sand mixed with the eco-complete.

How can I separate the eco-complete from the sand?

Blah...looks like more fun for me

Yeah, I tried that already. The problem is that the eco-complete can still pass through the hole.

Okay.....get a bucket. Put your substrate in it. Shake it from side to side vigorously. The sand should work it's way to the bottom, and you can scoop up the eco-complete. This won't rid yourself of all the sand, and will likely take a while, but it should work.

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....

Depending on how fine the sand is. You can try to build a seperator from screen door or some other mesh from Home Depot.

Or try vaccuuming out the sand, leaving the EC behind in the tank. Not sure if that works, but I am sure shaking the bucket gets you nowhere!

They make collanders that are fine mesh screen. I know, I have one. It was way less than $10. EC will not pass through it.

For the time it takes you to do this, you could easily buy a couple of new bags.

What fun is that,,,, for the rest of us?

Sean

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".
