cycling ada soil

so i just set up a 20 gal tank with ada soil. i have cycled ada soil before and know the procedure but i don't want to change this much water out of the tank and have to do so many water changes (i feel like im wasting water). anyways what i have decided to do was put the sponges to my sponge filter in my established tank every night to possibly gain the nitrifying bacteria and replace it back into the 20 gal tank. i also do this with bio max bags. i was wondering if anyone has used this method of solely using seasoned bio media to cycle their ada soil before and how long it took because i understand that the high levels of ammonia and nitrite potentially kill off the bacteria because of their high levels.

Just keep a check on the ammonia level and don't let it get above 4-5ppm. I've never done water changes during a cycle and never had an issue.

May be put in some floaters to get rid of the ammonia and nitrite.
