Time To Change Substrates?

I wasn't planning on having live plants until recently so my gravel which is a tad smaller than jelly beans may need to be taken out and replaced, but I'd like to get some advice first. Right now I have a 39 gallon tank with roughly 3 watts per gallon. I say roughly because I have a NO fluorescent 20 watt plus two 20 watts overdriven 4x. In addition, DIY CO2 and Master Grow Fertilizer.

Right now I have mostly easy plants like crypts, anacharis, hornwort java fern, java moss, and my most difficult plant being an Amazon Sword.

Should I stick with my gravel or should I consider replacing it with better substrate? Thanks in advance.

I would think about repalcing it with a smaller, higher nutrient substrate such as eco-complete or flourite. Your palnts will be easier to plant, rooting will be easier, the nutrients, ect. In my 29, I have 20lbs. of eco-complete covered with about 20lbs, of small, dark brown gravel from Estes becuse black just looks unnatural to me.
