black beauty(blasting sand)

does anyone have any experience using black beauty (blasting sand) with DIY osmocote clay ball as substrate fertilization? am going to add a thin layer of peat on the bottom of the tank as well.

its gonna go into a 75 gal low tech tank

are you a sink or source?

Osmocote always surfaces for me with the trumpet snails moving things around. Soil/clay blends in with the dark sand, even if its on top its much less of an eyesore.

Cool, I was going to actually make little clay balls with the osmocote "pellets" inside. These are essentially root tabs that will be shoved into the substrate, so i don't think the osmocote floating will be much of a worry

I will also add a layer of laterite. So between the sphangnum peat, laterite, and clay root tabs i hope to have enough NPK, organics, and CEC to get the job done for heavy bottom feeders

are you a sink or source?
