Eco-Complete?

I have been shopping around for substrate and was wondering how good Eco-Complete was. Someone is selling it on ebay for $20.00 a bag free shipping so I am liking that but if there is something better in that price range I would be interested in that perhaps. I would prefer a black substrate. Anyone have any ideas or experience with any thing else? It will be going in a 40 breeder with 4x39w T5HO and pressurized co2. Thank You!!

Hey TheKribKeeper

There are a lot of threads about Eco and ADA about the ins and outs of this or that substrate. I use it and it does a good job of holding on the plants in it and I'm sure other people have had good or excellent results with it too. I do use Root tabs every 6 months just to make sure my plants roots are getting good minerals.
Now for price... I think you can find a better price than ebay $20.00 seems a more pricey.
I would check out Petco....if I were in your shoes

Ok I will check petco it's in the next town over. The bags last time I was there were all taped up and bone dry but I will check again maybe they got some new shipments.

Think Petco online, run a sale every other month and free shipping is not uncommon. I got my eco complete for 15.99 a bag shipped to my door. 7 bags total not a dry one in the bunch

It's fine if Eco-Complete is bone dry. Just rinse it off.

It's an inert substrate that contains next to nothing that's beneficial for your plants until you add your own fertilizer.

You can get better products for $20. If you can get it locally in the $12-$15 range, though, that's a solid price for a nice-looking substrate with high CEC (ability to soak up nutrients and slowly release them to plants).

I liked the benefit of no rinsing needed for Eco Complete and use it in my tanks. Like it a lot.

You guys are lucky, such better deals on stuff down there.

I bought a bag of eco-complete yesterday and it was $29.99. Based on this thread, I got hosed!

Ah well, live and learn. I do like the look of it though.
