CaribSea Instant Aquarium Sand alone?

I did a search but didn't see too much on this. I'm starting a second tank and while I used organic potting soil in the previous one with a regular black sand cap, I had/have a problem with some sort of worm in the soil and think it came in the potting soil. I was hoping that with my second tank I can just use this instant aquarium sand and add fertilizer weekly or tabs or something and not have the weird worms.

Anyone tried this brand alone before and what success have you had? Don't plan on super demanding plants, just a few root plants, this tank is going to be a lot more sparse.

I have used just the sand. I liked the look, but not how hard packed it would get. Ended up usinf a mix of flourite and the sand.
