Quick dirt/MTS question

Getting plants next weekend ( ) - is it okay to put the hardscape in, MTS, cover with gravel, but not fill the tank for a week?

Guessing it's fine...figured I'd ask anyway.

I do not see a problem, but you could run another cycle on the MTS process in that time, if it needs it.

Otherwise go ahead and set up the tank, fill, and start the fishless cycle. Then you will be a week ahead of things when you plant.

If you're actually following the MTS prep and setup method,
and have run enough wet dry cycles to break down all the organic material then your good.

If not,,, don't put blocking hard scape over organic rich soil mixes. You won't like the results.
Set the hardscape over capping material only or directly on the bottom of the tank and dirt around it.

I tank dirt and can tell you that's a problem.

Thanks! MTS got 6-7 cycles - it's good to go.

wkndracer - Which is better? Hardscape directly on the bottom (well, on egg-crate), or on the gravel?

I am not wkndracer, but put the hardscape on a stable surface, eggcrate is fine. Do not put it on the top of the substrate. Any fish that digs at all can under mine it.
